Which parts of Sunrise do you cover?
The whole city is in the planned service area — Welleby, Springtree, Sunrise Golf Village, the newer western sections out toward Sawgrass, and everything between Oakland Park Boulevard and State Road 84. If there is a pool to teach in, the lesson comes to it.
How much do private swim lessons cost in Sunrise?

Every price is in US dollars and applies right across Sunrise, and because instruction is one-on-one, none of that time is spent waiting for a turn. We swim at a community pool, not a backyard one. Can lessons still happen?
Often, yes — and in Sunrise that is a common situation rather than an unusual one. Lessons can take place at a community or association pool when the community allows guests and private instruction, which covers a lot of the shared decks in Welleby, Springtree and Sunrise Golf Village. Rules vary by association, so check yours and tell us what it says when you get in touch.

Sunrise did not grow the way its western neighbors did. It incorporated on June 22, 1961 as Sunrise Golf Village — the developers had meant to call it Sunset Village, as the story goes, until residents objected — and only became plain Sunrise in 1971, when residents voted the new name in by referendum. It grew fast and it grew mixed: single-family streets, courtyard condominiums and older blocks all sit inside the same city limits, and the 2020 census counted 97,335 residents. Sunrise is also where a large share of the county goes on a Saturday, thanks to Sawgrass Mills and Amerant Bank Arena, home of the Florida Panthers. It is a working, unpretentious, thoroughly lived-in city — not a gated enclave, and its swim lessons should not be priced or scheduled like one.
That mix is exactly why an at-home model earns its keep here. Sunrise is genuinely well served for public recreation: the city keeps more than 250 acres of municipal green space and runs four city-owned aquatics facilities, the largest of them closed intermittently for renovation through December 2026, and Welleby Park alone spans nearly 29 acres, with a 1.23-mile looped path and eleven picnic pavilions. What none of that changes is the arithmetic of a fixed weekly class — two trips a week, at a time somebody else chose, in a lane shared with several other children. A private lesson at your own pool removes the commute and the queue in one move, and the rest of the evening survives intact.
Not every Sunrise family has a screened backyard pool, and the model works either way. A great many households here swim at a community or association pool — the shared decks in Welleby, Springtree and Sunrise Golf Village — and lessons can happen there when the association permits guests and private instruction. Policies differ community to community, so mention yours when you reach out. Either way your child learns in the water they actually swim in — and a child who is confident at one familiar edge is confident in the water they are most likely to be near unsupervised.
Every stage is taught. The youngest swimmers work on calm entries, back floats and the wall — reach it, hold it, turn around. Elementary-age kids build real freestyle and backstroke; plenty of them will end up swimming for Piper High School on NW 44th Street, which draws from most of the city. Teens work endurance and technique, and adults get patient, judgment-free instruction. And because Sunrise is a city of boardwalks and open water as much as pools — Oak Hammock Park, Sawgrass Sanctuary, Broward County's Markham Park, in Sunrise — the safety half of a lesson is never theoretical. A South Florida pool does not close for winter either, so a child who starts in October is still building in February.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4 in Broward County — not just statewide — and the county reports that the majority of drownings happen when a child is left unsupervised. Across Florida, more than 500 people died from unintentional drowning in 2023.
Broward County takes this seriously: the county health department, the Children's Services Council and Broward's SWIM Central program together offer coupons that help families with young children cover the cost of swim lessons.
